1993-05-22 Julio Cesar Borboa w pts 12 Joel Luna Zarate, Four Roads Bullring, Mexico City, Mexico - IBF. Referee: Jesus Arias Torres. Scorecards: 117-111, 116-112, 115-113. Repeatedly scoring with shortened blows, Borboa (114½) kept his inside work-rate up to hand Zarate (114½), the nephew of the legendary Carlos Zarate, his first defeat as an amateur or pro. The challenger did better at distance, having the punch power to hurt Borboa, but was unable to keep his fellow Mexican at arm's length.
