1993-05-22 Roy Jones w pts 12 Bernard Hopkins, RFK Stadium, Washington DC, USA - IBF. Referee: Steve Smoger. Scorecards: 116-112, 116-112, 116-112. Showing great variety and terrific hand speed and movement, the unbeaten Jones (159½) captured the title vacated by James Toney when taking the points decision. It was not until the sixth round that Hopkins (159), who was on 22 straight, had any success and in the eighth he began to catch Jones with some big rights to the head before the latter got back on course. The last three rounds saw Hopkins trying to step it up, but he proved to be too one-dimensional to worry Jones, who took no risks at that stage of the fight.
