1993-06-07 Zack Padilla w pts 12 Carlos Gonzalez, Thomas & Mack Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 117-111, 115-114, 117-112. Moving around Gonzalez (140) and pumping out accurate left jabs and hard rights throughout, the challenger caused a huge upset when being awarded the decision, having thrown hundreds of blows, many of which landed. Even when his right eye started to swell in the second and he was hurt by left uppercuts and solid rights, Padilla (139) remained unfazed, coming back to nail Gonzalez (140) with a cracking right in the same session. The pattern of the fight remained constant, with Gonzalez working the body in the vain hope that Padilla would be worn down, while the latter threw eye-catching head shots and utilised his speed. Although Gonzalez made a big effort in the 12th it was beyond him and with Padilla continuing to punch on the retreat the decision was a formality.
