1993-06-26 Nestor Giovannini w pts 12 Markus Bott, Alsterdorfer Sports Hall, Hamburg, Germany - WBO. Referee: Paul Thomas. Scorecards: 114-113, 114-113, 113-114. In what was a disappointing fight, Bott (189) lost his title to Giovannini (185½) 133 days after winning it, but there was so little between the two men that it could have gone either way. It was a poor performance by the champion, his punches lacking snap throughout, and there was a case for the referee to answer when Giovannini fell out of the ring in the tenth only to be helped back in again by his brother. There was so much dissent about the way that the referee allowed Giovannini to duck below the waist line for much of the fight and for putting up with both men continually holding on in every round that a rematch was ordered in the aftermath.
