1993-07-10 Julio Cesar Vasquez w pts 12 Alejandro Ugueto, Villa Lujan Defenders Football Ground, Tucuman, Argentina - WBA. Referee: Julio Alvarado. Scorecards: 118-111, 119-111, 119-111. Unbeaten on 13 prior to challenging for the title, Ugueto (154) gave it his best shot but was unable to move the southpaw champion, who laboriously tried to find a finishing blow without success. Although winning comfortably, the crude, wild-swinging Vasquez (153½) found himself up against an opponent who not only knew how to resist but was able to fight back at times despite shipping solid lefts to the head and body. While possessing limited boxing skills, once again Vasquez had traded on his aggression, toughness and great strength to win a contest that many initially thought he might lose.
