1993-07-17 [[Freddie Pendleton]] w pts 12 [[Jorge Paez]], Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Joe Cortez. Scorecards: 116-111, 116-111, 116-110. Making a fast start, the champion dropped Paez (135) with a straight right just moments into the fight and in the second round when the latter was cut on his left eye it looked as though it might be an early night. With Pendleton (135) using the left jab to spear Paez he dropped the former circus clown again in the fourth with a right uppercut-left hook and was beginning to hand out a boxing lesson. Surprisingly, Pendleton didn’t up the pace, being content to control Paez, but he was still scoring well with the jab while the latter fought furiously without any real success. After being cut over the right eye in the 11th following a clash of heads, Pendleton was content to box his way home as Paez gave it everything he had in a final vain attempt to grab the title.
