1993-08-21 [[Julio Cesar Borboa]] w co 3 [[Carlos Manuel Mercado]], Raceway Park, Kalispell, Montana, USA - IBF. Referee: Kevin McCarl. Despite having a big reach advantage, Mercado (114½) was unable to make it pay as Borboa (115) cut the ring down and sent in accurate counters to badly mark the challenger up in the opening round. By the third, the challenger, cut over the right eye, was being given a systematic beating with punches raining in and it was no surprise when a heavy right to the body sent him face down on the canvas where he was counted out on the 1.58 mark.
