1993-08-28 Virgil Hill w pts 12 Sergio Merani, Civic Centre, Bismarck, North Dakota, USA - WBA. Referee: 119-109, 119-112, 119-112. Coming back to the ring following an operation on his left shoulder in April, Hill (174¾) took a while to find his feet, but after landing a terrific left hook to the challenger’s body in the second round he was on his way. Even though it took Hill several sessions to find his sharpness, Merani (174½) was unable to take advantage due to his lack of mobility. From the sixth onwards Hill was back to his best, firing in blows from both hands and generally keeping the tough Argentinian on the defensive while never appearing likely to force a stoppage.
