1993-08-30 Tommy Morrison w rtd 4 Tim Tomashek, Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri, USA - WBO. Referee: Danny Campbell. Having been on reserve duty, Tomashek (205) became a last-minute replacement when the challenger, Mike Williams, left the venue after being asked to supply a pre-fight drug test. At that point the beer-barrelled Tomashek, a mere club fighter, had won 30 contests against no one of note in 46 outings. After letting his opponent stay in the fight for three rounds, Morrison (226) began to open up in the fourth and four heavy blows dropped the shaken Tomashek towards the end of the session. Back on his feet and allowed to stay the remaining few seconds, Tomashek, now badly swollen around both eyes, was ruled out of the fight by his seconds during the interval on the advice of the ringside doctor. Badly embarrassed, the WBO eventually overruled their supervisor in withdrawing title status on the grounds that despite paying the sanction fee Tomashek was not of championship standard.
