1993-10-16 Anaclet Wamba w rtd 8 Akim Tafer, Marcel Cerdan Sports Palace, Levallois-Perret, France - WBC. Referee: Rolando Barrovecchio. In an all-French title fight the champion retained his title when Tafer (189¾) failed to come out for the eighth after sustaining a swelling on his left eye in the sixth and being all but out on his feet. At that point Tafer was ahead on two of the judges’ cards, but had little left in the tank and Wamba (190) was just as strong as when he started. While Tafer boxed well, left jabs, hooks and combinations surprising Wamba at times, it was the latter’s greater power that was the deciding factor.
