1993-10-29 [[James Toney]] w pts 12 [[Tony Thornton]], Civic Centre, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - IBF. Referee: Sam Williams. Scorecards: 118-110, 118-110, 116-112. In a contest that saw each and every round go virtually the same way, the champion appeared happy to let Thornton (167) stalk him for much of the time while he responded with countering blows and good movement. The opening two sessions saw Thornton concentrating on the body and having some success before deciding on a more predictable plan of campaign when coming forward in a straight line, throwing hooks, uppercuts and combinations. From there on in, Toney (168) was always one step ahead and Thornton had little success other than to make the champion work hard for the decision, winning three rounds at most.
