1993-11-19 Charles Murray w rtd 5 Courtney Hooper, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Frank Cappuccino. Coming in as a late substitute for Rafael Pineda who was injured, Hooper (139) found the champion a difficult number to deal with and apart from landing a few inconsequential punches could never really get himself up for the task in front of him. While it took Murray (140) some time to warm up to the task once he got the left jab going to head and body in the third and Hooper’s left eye began to swell there seemed to be no way back for the latter. Picking it up in the fourth with left hooks and uppercuts, Murray began to unleash punch after punch on the unfortunate Hooper in the fifth and after taking a battering on the ropes the challenger was retired at the end of the round.
