1993-11-20 Nestor Giovannini w pts 12 Markus Bott, Alsterdorf Sports Hall, Hamburg, Germany - WBO. Referee: Joe O’Neil. Scorecards: 118-109, 117-110, 117-110. Following their earlier controversial fight, Bott (189) was given an early chance to regain his title but although going the distance there were no complaints when he was well beaten. Getting off to a bad start when given a standing ‘eight’ count after being caught by a big right to the head in the opening session and bereft of his old form, Bott was outboxed throughout by Giovannini (189). It was also extremely tough with plenty of holding and work on the inside, and Bott was thrown to the floor at least six times. Giovannini had a bit of a scare in the ninth when the doctor inspected a cut over his right eye, but allowed to box on the result was a formality. On 1 October 1994, Giovannini (184) forced Larry Carlisle (179) to retire inside six rounds in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a fight that was billed for the title but not sanctioned by the WBO.
