1993-12-18 [[Julio Cesar Chavez]] w rtd 5 [[Andy Holligan]], Cuauhtemoc Stadium, Puebla, Mexico - WBC. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Wobbled by a solid left hook to the body in the opening minute, the challenger must have realised it could only get tougher as Chavez (139¼) started to let the punches go and when he returned to his corner at the end of the second, bleeding above the right eye the reality was stark. However, the third and fourth rounds saw Holligan (140) do relatively well as Chavez took a breather, but towards the end of the fifth the latter got himself going again, unleashing heavy hooks and uppercuts, and although the Englishman fired back he was retired at the end of the round, a burst blood vessel in the nose making it too difficult for him to continue.
