1993-12-18 Simon Brown w co 4 Terry Norris, Cuauhtemoc Stadium, Puebla, Mexico - WBC. Referee: Lupe Garcia. After overcoming heart ailments and a detached retina, and with his best days apparently behind him, Brown (153½) came back to win the title from the seemingly unbeatable Norris (151¼) in what was recognised by The Ring magazine as the ‘Upset of the Year’. Having survived the opening assaults of Norris and further heavy bombardments, Brown struck with a big right, which was followed up with a left hook to put the champion down. Probably saved by the bell, Norris was still dazed when getting back to his corner. However, he ripped into Brown again in the second round, looking to take the latter out, before being hurt at the end of the session when wobbled by a solid left hook. Although Norris was still laying into Brown in the third he was having less success, being caught more and more, and a left-right-left hook had him finishing the round in bad shape. The fourth saw Brown picking it up as Norris’ punches began to have less effect on him, and following a heavy exchange the latter was sent crashing by a right to the head to be counted out on the 1.06 mark.
