1994-01-22 [[Julio Cesar Vasquez]] w pts 12 [[Juan Ramon Medina]], Sports Palace, Alma Ata, Kazakhstan - WBA. Referee: Armand Krief. Scorecards: 119-102, 117-107, 120-105. The contest had only been going for a minute or so when the champion had Medina (152½) over from a solid southpaw straight left and although the latter was dropped a further seven times – again in the first, in the second, twice in the third, in the eighth, and twice in the 11th - his durability enabled him to last the distance. Unable to hurt Vasquez (153¼), the Dominican-based Medina had little going for him, other than sticking out the jab and skittering backwards as fast as he could and if the contest had been stopped there would have been little dissent.
