1994-01-29 Leeonzer Barber w rsc 9 Nicky Piper, National Ice Rink, Cardiff, Wales - WBO. Referee: Ismael Quinones-Falu. Carrying the fight to the champion, and excelling with the left hook, Piper (174¾) got away to great start. Barber (175) was always dangerous, but he lacked Piper’s work rate and by the third there was an ominous swell under his right eye. Occasionally Barber showed his class, but by the eighth his right eye was closed and he looked to be heading for a defeat. Then, with most of the fans sensing that Barber would soon have to be retired, the latter pulled out a tremendous left hook to the jaw in the ninth to send Piper crashing. Although Piper managed to get to his feet he was immediately dropped again and rescued by the referee at 1.40 of the round.
