1994-03-18 Juan Martin Coggi w rsc 3 Eder Gonzalez, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Richard Steele. Following their previous fight, fireworks were expected and in the opening round it went to plan with the southpaw champion being dropped by a looping right to the jaw as Gonzalez (140) went looking for an early win. Lasting out the round without absorbing too much further damage, Coggi (140) began to counter well in the second despite having to take the odd right-hand bomb coming his way, but he was still very wary. At the start of the third, Coggi was again forced to take a heavy right counter to the head and then almost immediately another huge right gashed his left eye badly. Knowing he was in big trouble and wouldn’t be allowed to go on much longer, Coggi stormed into Gonzalez with five or six big shots landing and when the latter gave way a brutal left decked him. Up but groggy, Gonzalez was hit with everything in Coggi’s armoury and was eventually stopped on the 2.01 mark after he had been put down again.
