1994-03-19 Herbie Hide w co 7 Michael Bentt, New Den Football Ground, Bermondsey, London, England - WBO. Referee: Paul Thomas. Looking overweight, the champion made his first defence in the country of his birth and proved to be a big disappointment when going down to defeat ten seconds from the end of the seventh. Right from the start Bentt (230) had trouble with the speed and movement of Hide (216), who made for a difficult target, and in the third round he was dropped and hurt by heavy right hands. From thereafter the fight belonged to Hide and although Bentt came back well in the seventh, towards the end of the round the challenger finally caught up with him when two solid rights sent him down to be counted out. The aftermath saw Bentt detained in hospital for several days after suffering cumulative concussive damage to the brain and being retired forthwith.
