1994-04-22 [[John John Molina]] w pts 12 [[Gregorio Vargas]], Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Joe Cortez. Scorecards: 118-110, 117-112, 118-110. Working behind a great jab and showing excellent hand speed, Molina (129½) kept the heavy blows coming in from his dangerous challenger to a minimum as he swept through the opening four rounds. The former WBC featherweight champion was always going to pose a risk but Molina knew how to handle him, and after some hectic exchanges in the sixth and eighth when both men landed heavy shots he moved up a gear to take complete command. Although Vargas (130) kept plugging away, banging in hooks and right-hand counters, he could not break down Molina’s defence, the decision being a formality.
