1994-04-22 Michael Moorer w pts 12 Evander Holyfield, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA/IBF. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 115-114, 116-112, 114-114. Sticking to the southpaw jab that the champion was unable to find a way through, Moorer (214) did what he had to in order to win the title and apart from when he was put down in the second round by a couple heavy right hooks. Up at ‘five’ but forced to take the mandatory ‘eight’ count, Moorer got himself back in the fight and in the fifth he had Holyfield (214) cut over the left eye and in trouble. Moorer continued in the same vein and at the end of the contest he looked a good winner, but had one of the judges marked the second round correctly the result would have been a draw. Afterwards, Holyfield claimed damage to his left shoulder that necessitated a trip to the hospital had hindered him and made the fight much tougher for him than it already was.
