1994-05-06 Kevin Kelley w pts 12 Jesse Benavides, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 117-111, 116-111, 116-112. In a battle of southpaws, Kelley (126) was down in the second from a Benavides (126) left over the top, and although the challenger did not get any more opportunities to repeat the dose he was well in the fight until he began to feel the effects of Kelley’s attention to his body in the latter stages. Afterwards it was stated that Kelley had suffered from cramp in the last three or four rounds, but he had done more than enough, his excellent jabs and combinations notching up the points in what on paper was a tough assignment.
