1994-05-21 [[Chris Eubank]] w pts 12 [[Ray Close]], King's Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland - WBO. Referee: Paul Thomas. Scorecards: 115-114, 118-112, 114-117. Yet again Close (168) gave the champion a run for his money and as before he looked slightly unlucky not to receive the decision. Defending himself well against the right uppercut, Close matched jabs with Eubank (167¾) in the early stages, using in and out tactics, and even when the Irishman was cut on the forehead in the sixth the latter failed to take advantage. Realising that the fight might be slipping away from him, in the eighth Eubank started to pick the pace up and from the tenth right through to the final bell he stormed into Close, who despite tiring badly kept his defences in place to deny the champion a stoppage victory.
