Having built up a comfortable lead over the first four rounds, using combinations to head and body, Borboa (113¾) dropped Sibali (114½) in the fifth following a combination of right uppercuts and left hooks. Although fighting back gamely, the challenger was hampered by swellings around the left eye from the seventh onwards and in the ninth session when the eye closed completely the referee pulled him out on the 2.35 mark.
