1994-05-21 Julio Cesar Vasquez w rsc 10 Akhmet Dottuev, King’s Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland - WBA. Referee: John Coyle. Although the champion made a reasonable start, Dottuev (153), also a southpaw, was quickly into his stride and was soon beginning to put impressive combinations together. Matching Vasquez (153¾) punch for punch, Dottuev dropped his man in the third round with a right hook to the jaw and stepped up the pace before being cut on the left eye in the fifth and floored by punches to head and body in the sixth. It looked grim for Dottuev, but after taking the mandatory count he came straight back to knock Vasquez over with a straight left. It was in the seventh, as Dottuev tired from his exertions, that Vasquez began to take over and by the end of the ninth the Russian was sold out. Coming out for the tenth the game Dottuev appeared to be at the mercy of Vasquez and was floored three times in all prior to being stopped on the 47 mark on the three-knockdowns in a round ruling.
