1994-07-17 Daorung Chuwatana w rsc 1 John Michael Johnson, Municipal Stadium, Uttaradit, Thailand - WBA. Referee: Carlos Berrocal. Although Johnson (117½) was badly cut over the right eye, and Chuwatana (117) had controlled the fight with combination punches, it was still a strange way for the latter to win a title after just one round had been completed.

The decision came about after the fight had been called off during the interval when the ringside doctor advised the referee that Johnson was incapable of continuing. Following a consultation with the WBA official in charge it was decided that as the cut had been caused by a punch, Chuwatana, a southpaw, should be named as the winner. However, Johnson’s people immediately filed a protest on the grounds that the injury had been caused by a head-butt and that a technical draw should have been declared, thus safeguarding the title. Despite Johnson being guaranteed a return he was soon boxing at a higher weight.
