1994-07-25 [[Verno Phillips]] w rsc 7 [[Jaime Llanes]], Great Western Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBO. Referee: Lou Moret. Having started in countering mode once he realised that Llanes (154) was there for the taking the champion began to open up and in the fourth he sent the Mexican crashing from a big left hook. Back on his feet, Llanes was now being outclassed and three heavy left hooks in a row from Phillips (154) battered him down again, in the fifth, and although he managed to make it to the end of the session he was gradually being taken apart. All Llanes had left was his bravery and after being dropped twice in the seventh the referee called the fight off on the 2.46 mark as he was trying to rise from the second knockdown.
