1994-07-29 Oscar De La Hoya w co 2 Jorge Paez, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. Contesting the title vacated by Giovanni Parisi, who had weight problems, De La Hoya (135) made quick work of Paez (134½) after a quiet first session in which he only opened up immediately before the bell. The second round saw De La Hoya get down to work quickly, and having stunned Paez with a left uppercut followed by a left hook he unleashed another near perfect left uppercut that left the Mexican flat on his back prior to being counted out after 39 seconds.
