1994-08-21 Julio Cesar Vasquez w pts 12 Ronald Wright, Jai-Alai Stadium, St Jean De Luz, France - WBA. Referee: Enzo Montero. Scorecards: 115-110, 113-110, 114-110. Despite claiming an injured right hand prior to the fight, the champion was instructed to meet Wright (154) on the contracted date or forfeit his title. Turning up just four days prior to meeting another fellow southpaw seemed strange, but Vasquez (153½) came to the ring in magnificent shape and floored Wright in the second and seventh rounds before dropping him twice more in the 12th to fully deserve the win. For his part, Wright put up a game display and was always looking to take the fight to Vasquez, even after being knocked down.
