1994-09-17 Vince Pettway w co 4 Gianfranco Rosi, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Jay Nady. Fighting in America for only the second time, Rosi (154) put his title on the line against his mandatory challenger, Pettway (152), after their previous contest had been halted prematurely due to an accidental butt. Starting in negative fashion, on the back foot and rarely attempting a counter, Rosi didn’t look like a champion and he was badly shaken up by a solid right to the head in the second round. With Rosi continuing to use spoiling tactics, an accidental head clash saw Pettway deducted a point in the second before he dropped the Italian for ‘seven’ with a right to the side of the head. At least Rosi tried to make a fight of it in the third, but in the fourth after being docked a point for hitting on the break he was counted out at 3.59 following a three-punch combination.
