1994-09-24 Regilio Tuur w pts 12 Eugene Speed, Sports Palace, Rotterdam, Holland - WBO. Referee: Frank Santore Jr. Scorecards: 118-108, 118-110, 117-109. Contesting the vacancy caused by Oscar De La Hoya’s decision to move up a weight class Tuur (129) set the pace, landing short hooks to head and body, while Speed (129¾) sent in some good shots from distance. Attacking strongly in the second round Tuur sent the American stumbling for ‘three’ before an accidental butt opened a cut on his left eye. Containing the injury well Tuur moved up a gear, and by the ninth he was well in control, his aggression difficult for Speed to effectively deal with. He also opened up a cut on the latter’s left eye in that session to make matters worse. Thereafter, it was all Tuur, who despite having problems with the eye damage, which had to be inspected in the tenth, was slipping and countering delightfully into the final stages to win a clear-cut decision.
