1994-10-01 Ike Quartey w rsc 5 Alberto Cortes, Cosets Arena, Carpentras, France - WBA. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. It did not augur well for the southpaw challenger when Quartey (144¾) had him bending over in some agony as early as the first round, and it did not get any better for the Argentinian as he was gradually softened up by big punches and demoralised in the next few sessions. By the fifth Cortes (146) was in real trouble, almost going through the ropes on one occasion before dropping down on one knee. When the referee saw Cortes' corner throwing in the towel he halted the contest, the finish being timed at 2.03.
