1994-10-01 Ike Quartey w rsc 5 Alberto Cortes, Cosets Arena, Carpentras, France - WBA. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. It didn’t augur well for the southpaw challenger when Quartey (144¾) had him bending over in some agony as early as the first round and it didn’t get any better for the Argentinian as he was gradually softened up by big punches and demoralised in the next few sessions. By the fifth Cortes (146) was in real trouble and was handed a heavy beating, almost going through the ropes on one occasion, before dropping down on one knee. Cortes had nothing left and when the referee saw his corner throwing in the towel he halted the contest, the finish being timed at 2.03.
