1994-10-12 [[Johnny Tapia]] w rsc 11 [[Henry Martinez]], University of New Mexico Arena, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - WBO. Referee: Denny Nelson. Contesting the title that was taken from Johnny Bredahl when the WBO were outlawed in Denmark, Tapia (114½) took full advantage of the opportunity afforded him in the wake of his drug-racked past to win a version of the world title. Setting a torrid pace, both men gave it everything, but by the tenth round Martinez (115), who had never been beyond eight, was beginning to falter. Coming out for the 11th, Tapia looked like he meant to finish it there and then when blasting his man non-stop, eventually finding a combination of blows to send Martinez stumbling to the deck. On getting up at ‘nine’, Martinez was rescued by the referee on the 1.23 mark.
