1994-11-12 Genaro Hernandez w pts 12 Jimmy Garcia, City Bullring, Mexico City, Mexico - WBA. Referee: Roberto Ramirez. Scorecards: 120-107, 117-109, 119-109. This was an easy defence for Hernandez (130) as he controlled the fight throughout against the brave Garcia (130), who was badly cut over the right eye in the fourth before being dropped by a double left hook in the fifth and then losing a point in the sixth for butting. Although the champion injured his right hand in the fifth and was forced to go one-handed from thereon, he continued to jab Garcia silly with the left despite also carrying a butt-induced cut over the left eye in the seventh, the decision being a formality. Hernandez forfeited the WBA version of the title in August 1995 when turning down a mandatory defence against Victor Paz in favour of a match with Oscar De La Hoya.
