1994-11-18 Oscar De La Hoya w rsc 3 Carl Griffith, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Mitch Halpern. In what was a one-sided affair, the champion disposed of Griffith (135) at 1.02 of the third round after knocking him down twice with left hooks and even appearing at times to be holding back. The first knockdown came in the opening session, but it was in the third that matters came to head after De La Hoya (135) had dropped Griffith for the second time. Although Griffith got up at ‘six’ before taking the rest of the mandatory count standing up he looked all in and after he was cleared to fight on and De La Hoya opened up with several head shots the referee, realising he couldn’t let it carry on, stopped the fight.
