1994-11-18 [[Roy Jones]] w pts 12 [[James Toney]], MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 119-108, 118-109, 117-110. Defending his title against the IBF middleweight titleholder, Toney (167) was comprehensively outboxed by a man who would glide away from punches while scoring himself, especially with left hooks. In the third round Jones (168), who was posing at the time, suddenly produced a right cross that caught Toney off balance and sent him down for the mandatory ‘eight’. More embarrassed than hurt, Toney tried hard to corner Jones but more often than not failed as the latter, showing great movement and footwork, was never in one place for long until tiring towards the end. It was only in the last four rounds when Jones slowed that he allowed Toney to make the running, but even then the champion was unable to take advantage, continuing to be second best.
