1994-12-03 Anaclet Wamba w pts 12 Marcelo Dominguez, Delmi Stadium, Salta, Argentina - WBC. Referee: Mickey Vann. Scorecards: 116-115, 115-113, 114-114. Finding it hard to make the weight, the champion looked distinctly lucky to have retained his title after a poor performance against the tough Dominguez (188¾) saw him unable to keep the latter away from him and be drawn in slugging sessions. Although the fight perked up in the ninth, Wamba (190) still was not doing enough against an opponent who merely swiped and lacked accuracy. However, in the tenth Wamba picked up the pace and just about got his nose in front, aided and abetted by Dominguez being docked a point in the tenth for carrying on fighting when the referee was picking up his misplaced gumshield. Wamba, damaged over both eyes at the finish, should also have been deducted a point at the same time as Dominguez for the same offence, but the referee failed to spot it.

Following an injury that forced Wamba to withdraw from a prospective defence against Akim Tafer, the latter met Dominguez at the Jai-Alai Stadium, St Jean De Luz, France on 25 July 1995 to contest the ‘interim’ title, Dominguez winning on a ninth-round stoppage. Having successfully defended the ‘interim’ crown against Reinaldo Gimenez (w rsc 12 on 2 September 1995 at the United Youth Club Stadium, Gualeguaychu, Argentina) and Sergey Kobozev (w pts12 on 24 October 1995 at the Marcel Cerdan Sports Palace, Levallois-Perret, France), Dominguez was proclaimed champion in April 1996 after Wamba had failed to make the weight for their title fight.
