Having put up spirited resistance to deny Sorploenchit (112) before being cut and taking a battering in the eighth, Nunez (112) again took a pounding in the tenth and 11th rounds from the champion’s educated fists and after being dropped the referee called a halt. Taken to hospital immediately after the fight, Nunez was said to be in a critical condition with swelling around the brain, but within 12 hours he had made a full recovery without surgery and was on his way home.
