1995-01-07 Alejandro Gonzalez w rtd 10 Kevin Kelley, Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas, USA - WBC. Referee: Laurence Cole. Right from the opening bell Gonzalez (126) imposed himself on the southpaw champion, jolting him with solid jabs and long rights, and damaging his left eye early on before the latter temporarily fought back. In the sixth round after Kelley (126) was dropped to the floor by a crushing right to the head it looked all over. After rising at ‘six’, his right eye almost shut, he somehow stayed in the fight, and despite being on the verge of being knocked out he even came back to sensationally drop Gonzalez in the eighth. By the ninth Kelley was right back in it, but in the tenth when he again took a terrific battering, although refusing to go down, he was retired by his corner at the end of the session.
