21 January Harold Mestre w rtd 8 Juvenal Berrio, Bernardo Caraballo Coliseum, Cartagena, Colombia - IBF. Referee: Francisco Hernandez. Fighting for the title relinquished by Orlando Canizales and in a battle between native Colombians, it was the power and aggression of Mestre (118) against the skills of Berrio (118). For seven rounds both men were still in the fight, although it was noticeable that Berrio was tiring. Then, after a right-left bowled him over in the eighth, as much from exhaustion as anything else, on getting up he told the referee that he’d had enough. The finish was timed at 2.43 of the session.
