1995-02-04 Hi-Yong Choi w pts 12 Leo Gamez, Industrial Gym, Ulsan, South Korea - WBA. Referee: Silvestre Abainza. Scorecards: 114-118, 115-114, 112-116. Having lost the WBA mini-flyweight title, Choi took a 14-month break from boxing prior to coming back at 108lbs and challenging Gamez (107¼) after three good wins under his belt at the new weight. Getting away fast, Choi (107¾) took the opening four rounds and then consolidated his lead before holding off the tiny champion’s strong finish. Although one judge had the busy South Korean as winning by six rounds it appeared to be much closer than that.
