1995-02-18 [[Oscar De La Hoya]] w pts 12 [[John John Molina]], MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 116-111, 117-110, 116-111. Enjoying a huge advantage in height and reach, De La Hoya (135) not only proved he could do the distance, but also proved his worth when making a successful defence against a man who was a former IBF junior lightweight champion. Getting away well, De La Hoya dropped Molina (134) with a left-hook counter in the first and from then on the champion was held at every opportunity as he looked to get his punches off. By the middle rounds it had become very scrappy, but Molina then went on to have his better moments in the fight, doing well with left uppercuts and rights to head and body, before De La Hoya came back strongly with explosive combinations to wrap up the decision.
