Making his first defence and fighting a southpaw for the first time in his career, Jones (167½) quickly got down to business, landing bunches of blows before smashing in big rights to the head followed by a left hook to floor Byrd (167½). Back on his feet, Byrd was immediately dropped again and after rising and being hit without reply the referee called the fight off on the 2.06 mark.
