1995-03-18 Steve Collins w pts 12 Chris Eubank, Green Glens Arena, Millstreet, Ireland - WBO. Referee: Ron Lipton. Scorecards: 117-113, 114-112, 114-112. Taking six of the first eight rounds, Collins (167¾) outworked and outhustled the champion, knocking him down in the eighth and generally staying on top of him. As the rounds passed by, Eubank (167¾) became aware that the fight was slipping away from him as Collins worked well with both hands and he was on the floor again in the ninth, but no count was given. In the tenth Eubank finally caught up with Collins, dropping him with a right to the temple, but when the Irishman got up on shaky legs he was surprisingly left alone. The last two sessions saw Eubank desperately trying to save the day and although he jarred Collins up a couple of times and cut his left eye the latter spent the final 30 seconds of the fight dancing his way out of trouble to make sure of the decision. Having lost his 43-fight unbeaten record, it was clear that Eubank would welcome the return match eventually set for September.
