Getting off to a good start Botile (117¼) shocked Mestre (117¾) with a terrific barrage of lefts and rights in the opening round, and began the second where he left off. After being warned for a low blow, the champion was sent sprawling from a left-right combination, and on just about making it to his feet he was rescued by the referee at 1.24 as he stumbled around the ring with no defence in place.
