1995-07-22 [[Nigel Benn]] w rtd 8 [[Vincenzo Nardiello]], Docklands Arena, Millwall, London, England - WBC. Referee: Larry O’Connell. Retaining his title for the eighth time, Benn (168) was just too heavy handed for Italy’s Nardiello (167), who was retired by his corner after 1.43 of the eighth round after being down five times. Strangely, although being down three times in the seventh and twice in the eighth only two of them counted as knockdowns. Having won the opening three rounds, Benn became ragged in the fourth and fifth and allowed Nardiello, boxing behind the southpaw lead, back in to the fight. After Nardiello dropped to his knees, complaining that he had been butted, towards the end of the fifth it appeared that he’d had enough and from there on the result was never in doubt.
