Both men fought with intensity and it was not until the fifth that the champion, Romero (110¾), seemed to make a dent, but a round later Martinez (111) was decked twice with heavy right handers, the second of which left him prostate to be counted out on the 1.53 mark. With Romero injured following a non-title loss to Willy Salazar, Robbie Regan stopped Ferid Ben Jeddou in the the second round on 16 December at the Welsh Institute of Sport, Cardiff, Wales in a so-called IBF ‘interim’ title fight. A month later, Romero relinquished the crown, while Regan moved up to bantam to challenge Daniel Jimenez for the WBO title.
