1995-09-09 Oscar De La Hoya w rtd 6 Genaro Hernandez, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. While the challenger threw more punches many of them were wildly off target and De La Hoya (135), showing more head movement than previously, bided his time in the early stages. However, Hernandez (133), a former WBA junior lightweight champion, quickly proved that he had lost none of his speed as he buzzed around, but by the fourth De La Hoya was catching him with countering blows and had got his jab going. It was in the sixth that De La Hoya began to find a rhythm and after working Hernandez over predominately with left uppercuts the latter returned to his corner at the end of the round and was retired after suffering a broken nose.
