1995-09-16 Julio Cesar Chavez w pts 12 David Kamau, Mirage Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 117-110, 116-112, 116-114. Making good use of his extra reach, the challenger often outscored the listless Chavez (140) in the first half of the bout, mainly due to a clash of heads that had seen the latter cut over the left eye in the opening session and boxing wearily. The tide turned for Chavez in the eighth when he dropped Kamau (140) with a straight left and in the next three rounds he repeatedly connected with hard punches to head and body before the Kenyan came back in the 12th to land good lefts to the head as he tried to get back in the fight.
